How do I…

Short answers to the questions we get most. Anything else, write to [email protected] and a person answers.

Get started

  • Install it or not: download the app for Windows or Linux, or open Blinki in your browser. Both sign in to the same account.
  • Sign in with a QR code: on the sign-in screen, scan the code with your phone or open its link on a device where you are signed in, then approve.
  • Make a server: press + in the top bar, Create my own, name it. Invite people with the invite link from the server menu.

Blinki

  • Give it a job: the Work tab. Ask for a plan, a search, a document or a fix. It shows its plan and every step as it goes.
  • Work on a server: ask Blinki to ssh into it, giving your username and the server’s address. The first time it gives you one line to paste there, then it connects with its own key. It never needs your password. Ask it to forget the machine to cut it off.
  • Let it edit your files: in a Work chat, Folder, pick one folder. Each change is a card you can open: preview, code, diff.
  • Let it use your computer: in a Work chat, Computer. A blue frame with Stop appears while it works. It takes pictures of your screen to see what is there and uses your mouse and keyboard, and each step in the chat shows the picture and where it clicked. Blinki's own window and any sign-in, password or security window are blacked out of the pictures and never touched, and it asks before it sends, saves or deletes anything. Only you can see the pictures; deleting the chat deletes them. Press Esc to stop it at any time.
  • Use your computer from your phone: on the computer, open Settings, Use from your phone, switch it on and choose what Blinki may use there (its screen, some folders). Then, chatting on your phone or in a browser, open Tools and access and pick that computer. Blinki has to be running on it (the tray is fine); anything that sends, saves or deletes asks you on your phone first, and Esc or Stop on the computer ends it.
  • Set up your server: ask it in a Work chat, for example "make this server professional". It asks before anything it cannot undo.
  • Memory: what Blinki remembers about you is under Memory in the Work sidebar. Forget any line, or switch it off in Settings.

Design

  • Make something: the Design tab. Pick Prototype, Slide deck, Motion, From template or Other, describe it and press Create. Blinki builds it on the canvas part by part. If it asks a question or two first, answer them or press Decide for me.
  • Change it: ask in the chat beside the canvas, or use the bar above it. Tweaks has the colours, sizes and dark mode the design offers. Comment lets you click anything and leave a note, or Send to Blinki to have it fixed. Edit changes text and styles yourself. Draw lets you sketch on it, then say what to change.
  • Make an animation: pick Motion. Blinki builds it in scenes on a timeline you can play and scrub. Share → Export video saves it as MP4 (or WebM) in the desktop app or a desktop browser.
  • Present or share it: Present shows it full screen (arrow keys for slides, Esc to stop). In Share, switch on Anyone with the link can view for a link that shows the design, not your chat or comments. Share also downloads everything as a .zip or saves a PDF.
  • Go back: History lists every version Blinki saved. Restore any of them.
  • Keep it on brand: Set up design system on the Design tab. Your colours, type and components are written down once, and every design follows them.

Account and safety

  • Two-factor authentication: Settings → My account → Two-factor authentication → Turn on. Scan with an authenticator app and keep the backup codes.
  • Lost your phone: sign in with a backup code, then turn two-factor off and on again with the new phone.
  • Change your avatar or banner: Settings → Profile. PNG, JPEG, GIF and WebP work, animated ones too.
  • Report something: from the message or profile menu, or write to [email protected].

Calls

  • Join a voice room: click it in the sidebar. Camera, screen share and push to talk are on the bar at the bottom.
  • Keep the call while you work: press Minimise in the call. It floats in a corner while you use the rest of Blinki: drag it anywhere, fold it away, or open the call again. Each person’s tile says what they are doing, like Designing “Coffee club”. Only the people in the call see that, and direct messages only ever show as In direct messages.
  • No sound: Settings → Voice & video, pick the right microphone and output. In the browser, check the site has permission for your microphone.
